Bongs and 'Beer Goggles' Have Brits Banging Big Time

Apparently the "Boring Brits" took the 2007 sex survey to heart and are on a mission to change their reputations as being the biggest sexual duds in Europe. Seems they came in last in a Durex Global Sexual Wellbeing Survey that measured sexual frequency, among other things, across the globe. 63% of the UK averaged sex only once a week.
That puts them behind the global average of 67%. Those in France (77%) and Germany (75%) have much more to smile about, not to mention the lusty Greeks (89%).

Less than half of the UK (49%) are comfortable with expressing their fantasies and desires with their partners, compared with 76% of Greeks and 74% of Spanish.

On a global scale, only the Japanese are less open in love (21%).

Perhaps in an effort to change their stodgy reputations the Brits, as well as the majority of Europeans, seem to have discovered what they consider the "Holy Grail" of sex - drugs and alcohol.

A study of 1,341 young people in nine countries including the UK recently published in BMC Public Health found that the UK has one of the worst reputations for binge drinking and underage sex.

A third of 16 to 35-year-old men and 23% of women questioned said they drank to increase their chance of sex. The researchers said even though it is well known that use of alcohol and drugs is linked to risky sexual behaviour, the study showed many young people were "strategically" binge drinking or abusing drugs to improve their sex lives. More than a quarter of youngsters taking cocaine said they used it to prolong sex. They went on to state that drug use in general was linked to their having sex with multiple partners. Those who reported to have been drunk in the past four weeks were more likely to have had five or more partners, had performed sex without a condom, and regretted the sex after the drinks and drugs wore off.

Early use of alcohol and other drugs was closely linked to having sex under the age of 16 years in all countries, especially in girls. Almost half of participants in Vienna, Austria had drunk alcohol and had sex by the time they were 16, compared with 36% in Venice, Italy, 37% in Palma, Spain and 30% in Liverpool.

So what is the conclusion?

There is obviously some truth to those "beer goggles" clouding one's judgement. This alarming trend in young men and women is only going to lead to an increase in depression, STD's, unwanted pregnancies and people void of the ability to develop a legitimate, loving relationship in the future.

I think the Europeans need to start a new trend - Sober Sex.

Try it - you might just like it. True, you might notice the pimple on Jenna's rear, and Robert's pecs might be less than you had imagined they'd be in your previously drunken stupor......but look at the upside. No more brutal hangovers, no awkward morning encounters trying to remember who is that nameless stranger lying beside you in bed, no more counting the days on the calendar worrying that you are "late" once again. No more trips to the health clinic for yet another screening for STD's.

Best of all, you might actually find someone to love. A love based upon mutual respect and intimacy. Intimacy that only monogamy and ongoing communication shared over time can create.

An existence beyond the "bong and beer goggle" encounters that studies have validated are leaving you regretful and alone.
