There has been very little news coming out of NYC from Al Sharpton over the Sean Bell verdict and acquittal of all officers involved in the case. Not much on the wires, either.

Maybe it's because of all that bad pub from protesters wearing KKK hoods and yelling "Kill The Police!"

If he did back off because of that, he's slowing down in his old age.

So, with no new actions or pronouncements from the Al Vatican, this humble DJ reporter went to the Lair of the Beast, Sharpton's National Action Network website, to get an update.

So I did. And I found a little news gem I hadn't heard of anywhere else.

I also stumbled across an old Big Al story that turned my stomach.

First things first.

In excerpts of an Essence Magazine interview with Nicole Paultre Bell, Sean's widow, I found this little snippet regarding Hillary Clinton:

Essence.com: "People all over the country are fired up and ready to take action against this ruling. What has it been like for you to see the emotional response from so many people?"

Paultre Bell: "It’s surreal. I never would have thought that my family and I would be at the center of something like this. It’s amazing to me when people come up to me and tell me how I have their support. It all gives me strength to keep going. Some celebrities have reached out too."

"Hillary Clinton called again. She let us know that she sent her condolences to me and Sean’s parents, and she said that she will fully support the Justice Department investigation." .

Why no news of this elsewhere? That's pretty big, right? Hillary Clinton calling the widow of Sean Bell promising justice in the case, much as Big Al has and all that entails?

I checked Hillary's campaign site press archives. No press releases on Sean or Nicole Bell or the justice she seeks.

Could it be that this is Hillary shilling for the black vote to put a dent in Obama's monopoly, while keeping it all quiet as far as the white vote is concerned?

What is she doing interjecting herself into so controversial a case? And why is she keeping it at the volume of a whisper? Is she trying to have it both ways?

Call me cynical.

Also, Rep. John Conyers of Michigan, dean of the Congressional Black Caucus, has also chimed in, and is as neck deep in the Bell case as Sharpton now.

Rep. Conyers, by the way, has introduced bills in the House calling for slavery reparations and against 'religious intolerance', although the only religion highlighted in the bill was Islam.

In December 2006 Mr Conyers admitted to possible ethics violations, which is pretty much a Badge of Honor in Congress these days.

So here's the Big Al NYC Takeover Plan, according the the Big Guy himself.

'Sean Bell's family held a raucous meeting on Tuesday night in a Manhattan union hall with hundreds of supporters to organize a massive show of civil disobedience aimed at shutting the city down.

"There will be several actions within the next 10 days," said the Rev. Al Sharpton. "These policemen should know they have not, I repeat not, closed this case." Bell's dad said any protests will be peaceful.'

'Various pro-Bell groups also are going online to organize a national boycott of stores and gas stations from May 19-23. "The only thing that the establishment understands is the almighty dollar," says one e-mail message in circulation.

'Asked about the planned protests, Michael Palladino, President of the Detectives' Endowment Association, said, "The same legal system that grants people the right to lawful assembly has found our three detectives not guilty."

I might also ask you to look closely at the logo for Sharpton's NAN in the upper left corner of his website:

"No Justice, No Peace."

Speaking of justice, I thought I knew the worst of Al Sharpton from the Tawana Brawley, Crown Heights and Freddie's Fashion Mart affairs.

Little did I know.

Now to the stomach-turning part regarding Big Al and the Central Park Jogger 'wilding' rape case.

On April 19, 1989, a group of as many as forty predominantly black teenagers (the others were Hispanic) went to Manhattan's Central Park on April 19, 1989, expressly to engage in "wilding," i.e., to attack whites.

The mob carried out at least 12 separate attacks, including the assault and rape of The Jogger, whom they left for dead. The woman lost 75 percent of her blood, and remained in a coma for 12 days.

Assailants McCray, Richardson, Santana and Wise all were questioned and confessed on videotape in their parents' presence to attacking The Jogger and other parkgoers.

Yusef Salaam, also involved in the heinous assault, did not sign or videotape a formal confession but made self-incriminating statements, including admitting to having beaten The Jogger over the head and in the ribs with a metal pipe.

And then it's 'Here Comes Big Al' to the wilding rapists' defense. And he did a lot more than just inject himself directly into their defense.

Sharpton even brought fake rape victim Tawana Brawley to the trial one day, "to show her," he said, "the difference between white justice and black justice." He arranged for her to meet the jogger’s attackers, whom she greeted with comradely warmth

Sick enough yet? It gets worse.

Outside the courthouse, they [Sharpton and his entourage] chanted, “The boyfriend did it! The boyfriend did it!”

They denounced the victim as “Whore!”

They screamed her name, over and over (because most publications refused to print it, though several black-owned ones did).

Six men were convicted variously of rape, sexual assault, attempted murder, and riot in the first degree.

Outside of defendants and their lawyers, the legalism regarding Salaam having admitted, but not "confessed" to the attack, is a distinction without a difference.

Senator Bill Bradley of New Jersey observed at the time that many white Americans seemed to be saying of young black males: ''You rob a store, rape a jogger, shoot a tourist, and when they catch you, if they catch you, you cry racism. And nobody, white or black, says stop.''

Donald Trump called for some legal vigilantism, by the most painful means available.

''I want to hate these muggers and murderers,'' Mr. Trump wrote. ''They should be forced to suffer and, when they kill, they should be executed for their crimes.''

Big Al's reaction? He demanded that the detectives who broke the Jogger Case, and the prosecutors who won it, be investigated and prosecuted.

No Justice, No Peace.

Why Al Sharpton was ever considered fit to run for office, even as dog catcher, with a 'D' next to his name will forever be a black mark of shame on the Democratic Party.

But what do they care about shame. It's all about politics.

And for as long as Big Al is the Pope of Harlem, they'll keep stopping by to kiss his ring.

And that's the wrap on Big Al. For now.

More to come, no doubt.

Al smells smoke. The gas cans, matches and Fire Department can't be far behind.

Stay tuned.
