San Francisco Government Eliminates over 300 Jobs

Gavin Newsom has made some sweeping changes to San Francisco, and he hopes these changes will save the city millions. Today he announced the elimination of 301 city positions, which will save an estimated $29 billion in the coming years.
No one was fired from their current jobs. Newsom eliminated mostly positions that were vacant. For those positions that were occupied, people were simply moved over to other jobs. Most positions eliminated were the likes of unfilled gardener and maintenance jobs in the Parks and Recreations department. 200 jobs were cut from a local hospital.
Newsom says that these position cuts will make it easier down the road to balance a budget that is facing a huge deficit.
"We are facing some of the toughest decisions we have to make in order to balance the $338 million budget deficit,'' said Newsom in a statement.
