On Wednesday Clinton told a crowd that she was there for one reason and that was to make sure Michigan's votes are counted and that their voices are heard in the election.
Clinton
urged Barack Obama to give his backing to a proposal that would allow Michigan to hold a new Democratic contest to pick the party's nominee for president.
Clinton also told the crowd that Obama speaks passionately about empowering the American people and she is urging him to match those words with actions.
The crowd applauded as Clinton told them that they need to either count the votes that have already been cast in Michigan and Florida or have a new full and fair elections.
On Tuesday Michigan Democratic Party leaders said that a proposal to hold additional voting in June was stalled and unlikely to be approved before a deadline this week.
Lawmakers backing Obama's campaign seemed certain to scuttle any proposal.
Back in January Democratic primaries held in Michigan and Florida were invalidated because both states violated party rules by holding their ballots earlier to have a greater say in the selection of candidates.
Michigan's primary, which was on January 15, was won by Clinton but did not include Obama's name on the ballot and Clinton also won Florida but Democrats there have abandoned efforts to vote again.
The states were worth a combined 366 delegates to this summer's nominating convention and could become pivotal in the tight Democratic race if neither candidate reaches 2,024 delegates needed to get the nomination.
On Wednesday the Obama campaign released a memo raising questions about constitutional and other legal hurdles that a redo could generate.
Campaign attorney Robert Bauer said that the nature and seriousness of the legal and administrative questions presented by this initiative will decide if the state can achieve its goals.
There have been concerns over a rule that would bar independents and Democrats who voted in the January Republican primary from voting in the rerun contest.
I do not think they should do a re-vote because the state clearly broke the rules and voted early and Obama's name was not even on the ballot. It's not people of Michigan faults but the people who were in charge of all the voting knew better.
