Ok, we've all had them. Bad days where you just think "I can't take it anymore." Unfortunately for 50 year old Charles Madrid, his bad day just got worse. Venting over the phone to his X girlfriend his desire to kill the president has landed him in jail.
Anger and Frustration
Anger and Frustration
Charles Madrid just keeps ending up on the losing side of his battles these days. His life has been on a downward spiral over the past 2 years. He was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, his full time job at a local Los Angeles radio station was recently cut back to part time, and his bicycle, which he kept on his mother's front porch since having to move in with her, had just been stolen. It was his only means of transportation, and apparently became the proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back".
In a phone conversation with his former girlfriend, Wanda O'Hickey-Way, Charles went on and on about the state of his life and the person he blamed for his current situation - President George Bush. Wanda testified in court that Charles had threatened to kill the president.
"Committing this murder is not a murder, it's making a difference for the people," court papers say the former girlfriend, Wanda O'Hickey-Way, quoted Madrid as saying. "I'm going to kill who needs to be killed."
Apparently Wanda was so frightened by the conversation she quickly dialed 911 and told the operator that Charles was planning the assassination of Bush.
Authorities quickly moved in and arrested him. He has been charged with knowingly and willfully threatening to take the life of the president. According to an affidavit, LAPD officers arrived at his home Tuesday, and one asked Madrid, "Do you want to kill the president?"
"Yes," Madrid replied.
His mother, Rachel Madrid-Hall, said she conceded Madrid has a temper, but said "he's not a maniac. I think he was speaking out of frustration."
"Sometimes life just kicks you in the teeth" mom said.
Isn't that the truth.
And what a wonderful way to spend the taxpayer's hard earned dollars - prosecuting this 50 year old guy for having a bad day, and being stupid enough to share it with his X girlfriend, of all people.
I sort of feel for the guy. How about you?
