Music and art have been constant companions and friends for many years, they have seen me through bad times and helped me celebrate the good ones.

My relationship with music, likely began, when I first heard Elvis sing Heartbreak Hotel; I was 9 or 10 at the time. Since then my music interests have gone through many changes.

Art is a more recent acquaintance but of the two I have a deeper connection with art, perhaps because I do not sing or play a musical instrument but have organized art shows, been the president of an art gallery and dabbled in video, photography and installation.

Last night at the Galerie Restigouche Gallery, I was able to spend a foot tapping hour with these two old friends.

The art exhibit showcased the work of Johane Landry, a Quebec artist. Johan has been painting since 1981 and owns an Art Gallery in Saint-Omer, Quebec.

The music, which was truly eclectic, was provided by Old Friends. Old Friends is Munn Roy, piano-- Paul Cormier, percussion-- Roger Comeau, guitar—and Ben Gaudet, sax.

Old Friends had the crowd of approximately 60, tapping their feet and getting into the grove with tunes from Elvis, Moe Kaufman and Charlie Pride, for example. When Paul Cormier sang Georgia On My Mind, the applause during the final notes was hearty.

The evening was a successful one and a much enjoyed reunion.
