Will Tony Dungy leave the Colts?

A great coach, and a great man, Tony Dungy is credited as one of the first black head coaches to bring his team to the Super Bowl. He shares the honor with Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith, who rivaled his Colts last season. Dungy captured the honor of being the first black coach to lead his team to a Super Bowl win, but he is now left with the decision to move on or continue in the top spot for Indianapolis.

Dungy’s children are attending school in Tampa, Florida, according to WLFI.com of Lafayette, Indiana. Coach Dungy inferred that the move is not an indicator of whether he’ll stay or go.

The Colts management has been working to create an enticing package for Dungy, which would allow him more home time in the off season, as well as trips home throughout the season to spend time with his family. Dungy’s teen age son plays football, and an effort would be made to get him home to cheer on his son.

Dungy says he still needs to pray about it and talk with his wife and with management before giving a decision. Assistant Coach Jim Caldwell could be tapped to replace Coach Dungy if he leaves.

Best wishes to Tony Dungy, whatever he decides to do. He deserves the best for his hard work and for setting a great example.
