Rally Supports Dalhousie Mill

They came from across northern New Brunswick to the Town of Dalhousie in order to show their support for the town’s paper mill. Approximately 600 people, according to the CBC report, rallied to demonstrate that the closing the mill stretches beyond the town and impacts people living throughout the region. The AbitibiBowater Mill is scheduled to close at the end of January and this will directly affect 330 people but will also have a significant on other businesses in the town. Many local firms supply products to the mill. The province has said that it can not do anything to help but the towns people still have hope. "We're still hoping and until the deadline comes along, we're going to be out there being heard and seen,” Mayor Clem Tremblay said. Federal MPS were in the crowd as was the NDP provincial Leader Roger Duguay. Organizers said they want the province to step in and stop AbitibiBowater from removing its machinery from the building. The town would like to keep the building and its machinery intact for at least a year while a new buyer is found.
