The assassination attempt, which occurred at the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco, was the second attempt on Ford's life in 17 days, Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme having tried first. Moore was sentenced to life in prison after firing a single shot at Ford, but was entitled to release after 30 years because she'd committed no infractions and was a model prisoner.
Moore was originally scheduled to be released tomorrow from the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Dublin, which is a low-security facility located 20 miles southeast of Oakland at the Camp Parks Army Reserves Forces Training Area (RFTA) military base, but the release occurred a day early because tomorrow is a holiday. There are no reports as to where Moore is now located.
Two of her notable statements were:
I do regret I didn't succeed, and allow the winds of change to start. I wish I had killed him. I did it to create chaos,
and
I didn’t want to kill anybody, but there comes a point when the only way you can make a statement is to pick up a gun.
She later expressed regrets over the incident.
