The 14-ounce coffee mugs which are being recalled are described as being white with a handle of black plastic, with a stainless steel base. A "Starbucks Coffee" logo imprinted on the defective mugs comes in two colors: the brown original Starbucks logo or a black stamp. The Chinese-made mugs sold for about $11.00, and were available from February 2007 through November 2007. Mugs with the brown stamp were only sold in Seattle, where Starbucks is based.
While there have been 23 incidences of the handles detaching, only nine have resulted in minor burns. According to
CTV, it's not known if any of the burn incidents occurred in Canada. Consumers can contact Starbucks for a free beverage and a full refund.
