Dogfighting is a sport

"I think, you know, we don't say anything about people who shoot deer or shoot other animals. You know, from what I hear, dogfighting is a sport. It's just behind closed doors." Marbury said, according to Albany TV station Capital News 9.
Those were Marbury's comments on Monday while promoting his basketball shoe in Albany, N.Y. He compared hunting to dogfighting. I'm not sure if Marbury is aware that hunters have to apply for a license. Every state in the U.S. and every Province in Canada issues a certain amount of licenses each year. Licenses are bought and also regulated. Hunting licenses allow a person to hunt a number of animals for a fixed period of time. Most notably, hunting legally is not done behind closed doors. Secondly, being a Biology major, hunting actually serves as a great wildlife management tool that is a benefit to the environment.
Marbury also said "I think he's one of the superb athletes, and he's a good human being. I just think that he fell into a bad situation." According to Federal prosecutors, Mr. Vick did not fall into this situation, rather he created it. It seems Mr. Marbury has not kept up with the facts regarding this case.
Marbury is not the only person coming to the aid of Michael Vick. A leader of the Atlanta NCAAP said Michael Vick should be allowed to return to the NFL, preferably the Atlanta Falcons, once his sentence is over. R.L. White, leader of the NCAAP chapter in Atlanta spoke of aiding in Vick's rehabilitation, and also questioned the credibility of Vick's co-defendants believing they might have said things to save their own necks. White went on to add "His crime is, it was a dog."
I would believe that the requirements for a sport to be, one that it is legal, and two that it isn't behind closed doors. Marbury seems to have lost touch with reality if he believes that dogfighting is a sport. Not the best way to promote your shoe Stephon. As for Mr. White's feelings on Vick's return to the NFL, I feel Michael Vick should be banned from the NFL. For most professions, once you are guilty of a crime you are no longer allowed to work in that profession, there are no second chances for doctors, police officers, fire fighters. Vick should have to find another profession. His crime is murder, regardless of whether it was a dog, cat, or human.
