The NY Daily News reports that the tenants never knew what was in the basement below.

"It's beyond voodoo," said Dawn Jones, 22, who lives in the Holland Ave. building and never imagined the real-life fright film in the basement. "It's like a freak show down there. It makes me feel ill."

Jones, another tenant and a city inspector broke into the cellar about 1:45 p.m. to check on a faulty hot water heater. They made their way through the dark with only a flashlight and turned the corner to find the bizarre collection.

Some of it included intravenous bags, test tubes, beakers, microscopes and a refrigerator that held blood.

The 62 year old building owner is in jail for sexually abusing teen boys. The police were not sure at this point whether he owned the material or not.


"They found one jar that might contain a possible human fetus," said an NYPD spokesman. "But they might get it to a lab and find out it's rubber. The medical examiner will make that determination."

They removed several jars and are examining some that may hold dangerous explosive chemicals. Some contained animal remains.

The owner being behind bars, the tenants had been making out rent checks to his lawyer. There was no comment from the lawyer.
