OP/ED: The Hypocrisy of War Claims

image:20037:0::0

Lets begin with the Democratic Presidential Candidate Barack Obama who single handedly caused political tension with the United States Ally Pakistan.

“There are terrorists holed up in those mountains who murdered 3,000 Americans. They are plotting to strike again. If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf will not act, we will.”

While Barack attempts to take his foot out of his mouth and his head out of his behind, I would like to remind him of past quotes so that in the future he can be more consistent with his statements.

That’s what I’m opposed to. A dumb war. A rash war. A war based not on reason but on passion, not on principle but on politics.

That statement was rash, dumb, and completely passionate without reason. It was stemmed from politics. While I do not question his opposition to the Iraq war, and how it has taken attention away from American needs at home, I do question his honesty in that statement. Does he really see starting a war with Pakistan ( because that would be the inevitable here) any differently than starting a war with Iraq?

As far as his apparent disagreement with the handelings of President Musharraf, lets take a look back to 2002

Now let me be clear: I suffer no illusions about Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal man. A ruthless man. A man who butchers his own people to secure his own power.… The world, and the Iraqi people, would be better off without him. But I also know that Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States, or to his neighbors…and that in concert with the international community he can be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history.

President Musharraf is not even close to being as heinous as Saddam, nor is he a threat to the United States. He is doing his best to handle his country and only with cooperation from the United States will he get the border region in control. He is the President of Pakistan. They are a sovereign nation, and as long as they are cooperating there is no invasion. For the sake of consistency Congressman Obama should extend this same tolerance to another Leader who poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States.

My personal Opinion is that Obama would have gone to war with Iraq if he were President, but because he is a Democrat needs to find a way to disapprove of the Bush Administration while promoting his own agenda for the war on terror. After all you can't seem weak on this policy or Americans will not support you. You also cannot seem too fool hardy. Obama has a lot of work to do and experience to gain before he tries to run again. If he was not black, young, and good looking he would not have even been taken seriously. I think Barack Obama has sealed the deal and will not be getting the Democratic Presidential nomination.

Now lets go to the Republican side, with Tom Tancredo.

Rep Tancredo has suggested that if we want to stem a nuclear terrorist attack we should threaten to bomb Mecca and Medina.

I am not even going to bother quoting him. Barack is a well spoken man and knows his error quite well. Tancredo though has a penchant for putting his foot in his mouth on a daily basis. This is the most idiotic statement to come from a Presidential Candidate, yes, it trumps Obama's.

What can I say, he is a supporter of the War, so he is hardly being hypocritical. However if he believes the war was handled wrong, then I would have to say he has just made himself the kettle. Threatening to bomb holy cities to me is dangerous, and sickening. Tom Tancredo has been knocked off the list of serious potential Presidential candidates, if he ever was indeed there.
