Cell Phones Light the Way during Surgery

Imagine having a loved one in the middle of emergency surgery when a blackout occurs and the generators fail to respond. That's exactly what happened recently in Argentina. It's frightening to consider, but what would you do in such a situation?

Lucky for Leonardo Molina, the quick thinking of his relatives allowed the surgery to go on. Molina’s brother said there was no light for an hour. Reuters reported that the director of the hospital told La Nacion newspaper “the surgery was without light a maximum of 20 minutes.”

In either event, Molina’s family members gathered cell phones from others in the hospital to light up the operating room so the emergency appendectomy could continue.

What would we do without cell phones?
