I Want To Be Stung By A Jellyfish

Posted Jul 25, 2007 by Janice Ambrose
Well, not me personally, but Oslo University are looking for volunteers to be willingly stung by jellyfish. As if the pain of a jellyfish sting is not bad enough, the volunteer must be sunburned too. They are testing a new sun screen.
The new sun screen is aimed at protecting a person from the sun and, against jellyfish stings. The volunteers must be prepared to be stung on both arms. One arm with ordinary sunblock on, the other with the anti-jellyfish sun lotion. The volunteers are also required to be sunburned, otherwise the tests will be a waste of time.
They have received five volunteers so far. But Torgrim Andersen, spokesperson for the university's biology department is optimistic about getting a team of more than ten people to register. He said,
"There has been a lot of interest in us doing this."
The volunteers, cannot be younger than 18 years old. If you are pregnant, asthmatic, or have allergies or skin diseases you will not be accepted. Volunteers inner arms must also be hair free, so that they can get stung more easily.
What about compensation, for the volunteers who might enjoy being on the receiving end of a jellyfish tentacle wrapped around their arms.
The huge sum of three bottles of anti-jellyfish sun screen. This enormous pay will be sponsored by the Norwegian sun cream company AC-SunCare.
