Fundraising seems to be one of the bigger issues faced by James Gilmore in his bid for the presidency. He is the first Republican to drop out of the race, stating that it is “impractical” to continue running.

Former Governor of Virginia, James Gilmore may once again be looking to occupy the governor’s mansion but he will not continue running to be the next occupant of the White House.
Gilmore has been asked to run for governor again and is also considering a Senate run if John Warner doesn’t seek to retain the seat. The man who ran as a “consistent conservative” will consider his options and then decide how best to serve his state and his country.
It's surprising to see a candidate leaving so early in the race, although rumor has it John McCain may soon drop out due to financial troubles as well.
When interviewed about dropping out of the race, Gilmore stated:
"I have come to believe that it takes more than a positive vision for our nation's future to successfully compete for the presidency.”
He went on to cite the changes in primaries and the stiff competition in fund-raising. Gilmore has not decided to endorse another Republican candidate thus far, nor has he ruled out the idea. He has said he will continue to discuss issues such as terrorism and Home Land Security.
