What could have been an early morning tragedy was diverted by London police. A car bomb was found inside of a Mercedes in the crowded area of Haymarket near Piccadilly Square. Had it gone off it had the potential of killing thousands.

The car was packed full of 60 litres of petrol, gas cylinders and nails.
The Mercedes was spotted by an ambulance crew in the early morning smoking. It was located in front of the Tiger Tiger Club.
Scotland Yard, Assistant Commissioner Tarique Ghaffur urged people to be "alert and vigilant" in case of more attempts. Scotland Yard and local police are watching all weekend events for suspicious activity.
"I want to reassure Londoners that we are doing everything possible to make them safe," he added.
The Mercedes was spotted first and reported when smoke now believed to be vapor. At the time it was spotted up to 1,700 people were in the club. Scotland Yard is not answering comments about the possibility of a cell phone in the front seat of the car. Cell phones have been used to denote car bombs in the past.

One report said that a police officer turned off the phone in question before bomb squad teams arrived.
This potential attack is like others that have taken place in the past.
The Muslim Council of Britain is asking British citizens to report any information of this bombing to the police.
