The sport is mourning the death of fellow polo player who died two days after he was trampled by a horse during a practice game. Skeeter Johnston died at the medical center after being taken off life support at his family's request. Born Summerfield Johnston III, the son of Summerfield Johnston Jr., former CEO of Coca-Cola Enterprises, he competed in three U.S. Open finals, most recently in 2005. He was also the co-founder of the North Polo League. Johnston, player-sponsor for Skeeterville, had been in a coma since Wednesday when he was trampled by a horse while playing Catamount in a practice game. He was flown by helicopter to the hospital where he had surgery to alleviate swelling in the brain. He sustained two broken legs, a broken pelvis, dislocated hip and broken jaw when his horse rolled over on him, leaving him face down and unconscious on the field.
