The Minnesota Wild and FOX Sports North have announced the games for Hockey Day Minnesota will be played on Pokegama Lake in Grand Rapids.

The 2012 Wells Fargo Minnesota Wild Road Tour made a scheduled stop in Grand Rapids on June 26 at the Grand Rapids Eagles Club. In attendance at the press conference were Wild players Nate Prosser and Jason Zucker, and Wild television play-by-play announcer Anthony LaPanta, along with Grand Rapids boys hockey coach Bruce LaRoque, Grand Rapids girls hockey coach Brad Hyduke, Eagan boys coach Mike Taylor and Benilde-St. Margaret’s coach Ken Pauly.

The announcement that the 2013 Hockey Day in Minnesota games will be played on Grand Rapids area Lake Pokegama on Saturday, January 19, 2013 generated great excitement for the enthusiastic community. Grand Rapids has long been known as a serious hockey community with a long history of producing professional players.

Megan Christianson, Executive Director for Visit Grand Rapids commented, “This event is not only a great opportunity to show the pride that our community has for hockey, but also to showcase the pride that we have for our community as a whole.” Christianson continued, “We are proud to be in the heart of Minnesota’s natural environment, proud to be known as a hockey community, and proud that we have this unique opportunity to bring new visitors into Grand Rapids.”

The Grand Rapids Amateur Hockey Association was also on hand to show their support for 2013 Hockey Day in Minnesota event. Co-Chairs for the event will be Sholom Blake and Jim Bonner. “We were happy to see the overwhelming support for the youth hockey teams in Grand Rapids, this is a excellent opportunity to showcase the talent of area youth hockey” Blake said.

The “Visit Grand Rapids” Association will be assisting visitors, players and attendees with planning and lodging reservations for the eagerly awaited event. “Visit Grand Rapids” provides personal service and advice to those wishing to experience Minnesota’s pristine natural environment and partake in any of the dozens of area events which keep the community vibrant in all seasons of the year. The “Visit Grand Rapids” website offers an excellent overview of all of the activities offered in and around Grand Rapids.

The 2013 Minnesota Hockey Day event will feature high school hockey match-ups with Eagan playing Hibbing, and Class 2A state champions, Benilde-St. Margaret's playing Grand Rapids in boys' games. Hibbing will play Grand Rapids in a girls' game -- weather permitting -- at the outdoor site. Game times will be announced at a later date.

Hockey Day Minnesota 2013 on FOX Sports North will be the seventh annual celebration of hockey from peewees to pros. Previous sites for outdoor games include Baudette Bay (2007-08), St. Paul (2009), Hermantown (2010), Moorhead (2011) and Lake Minnetonka/Excelsior (2012).
