Statement by Honda Canada Regarding Left Driveshaft Recall: 2012 Honda Civic

Canada NewsWire

MARKHAM, ON, June 12, 2012 /CNW/ - Honda Canada will voluntarily recall approximately 12,587 model-year 2012 Civic vehicles in Canada to inspect and, if necessary, replace the left driveshaft. The left (driver's side) driveshaft in certain vehicles may not have been properly pressed into the CV joint during assembly, potentially allowing the two components to separate. If the driveshaft separates from the CV joint, the engine will no longer propel the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. No accidents or injuries have been reported related to this issue.

Honda Canada is announcing this recall to encourage owners of all affected vehicles to take their vehicles to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Honda Canada. Mailed notification to customers will begin in late-June 2012. In addition to contacting customers by mail, owners of these vehicles will be able to determine if their vehicles require repair by going on-line to www.honda.ca/recalls or by calling Honda Canada's Customer Relations Department at (888) 9HONDA9.
