Realm of LARP Breaks Ground as the First Reality Series Centered on Live Action Role Play

>PRWEB.COM Newswire

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 11, 2012

Realm of LARP follows five live action role players (LARPers) as they conquer enemies and face treachery amongst their own while making their way through a live action role playing adventure. The distinction between LARPing and other types of gaming is the live action element. The game creates a comprehensive world through costumes, settings, and acting out scenarios that result in a group of comrades engrossed and ready to face the challenges that lie ahead.

LARP has been showcased in feature films and television, but almost always secondarily. Realm of LARP capitalizes on the building fascination with geek culture by taking an in-depth look at the world of LARPing, while still making it accessible to those unfamiliar with the practice. Digital arrows and health barometers are used to fill in the blanks for the uninitiated viewer without condescending to those more familiar with role-playing games. YouTube’s desire to nurture original programming makes it the ideal platform to premier Realm of LARP. The Nerdist Channel is home to the type of audience the show is hoping to reach and a window into nerd culture for the rest of the world.

Creator of the show, Victor Varnado, aims to celebrate the players as opposed to painting them as outcasts or misfits. While past documentaries have focused on the lives of LARPers themselves, Realm of LARP engages the viewer in the storyline the players are acting out making the audience invested in the success of their quest. The audience gets a peek into a real life version of an adventure full of magic and intrigue. As Varnado puts it, “Why just watch Lord of the Rings you can go out and be Legolas?”

Realm of LARP premiers on June 25 with new episodes coming out every Monday following the debut. Episodes can be found on including the archive. Additional information and a trailer for the show can be found at

The Nerdist Channel is a YouTube original channel that launched April 2, 2012. The channel’s nerd-centric content will span comic books, video games, movies, pop culture and more. Shows on the channel features well-known talent such as Harry Knowles, Neil Patrick Harris, Rob Zombie, Weird Al and Chris Hardwick himself.
