PAINWeek Welcomes Veterans Health Administration to Its 2012 National Conference

>PRWEB.COM Newswire

Montclair, NJ (PRWEB) June 01, 2012

PAINWeek, the National Conference on Pain for Frontline Practitioners, today announced the addition of a full-day program outlining the approaches to pain management that the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) employs in providing care to patients. The Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model at all VHA Primary Care sites—which is referred to as Patient Aligned Care Teams (PACT)—serves as a model for an interdisciplinary and biopsychosocial approach to the provision of chronic noncancer pain treatment. Innovations in pain care, especially as they relate to pain management in primary care, will be reviewed during the course of the day.

Commenting on the announcement, Dr. Ilene Robeck of the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System noted “As co-chair of the National VA Primary Care Pain Task Force, I am excited to be a part of a program that allows us to review VA innovations in primary care pain management. I hope that the track can be one in which primary care practitioners and pain specialists can learn and share advances in pain treatment that impact non-VA as well as VA providers.”

Debra Weiner, Director of Program Development for PAINWeek added: “We are pleased to welcome clinicians from the Veterans Health Administration to present at this year’s PAINWeek conference. We believe that their emphasis on the pivotal role of primary care in the provision of pain management is well aligned with the approach that has long been advocated at PAINWeek. We look forward to adding their voice to the dialogue between the primary care providers and specialists from many treatment settings who will be at the conference.”

Preparing frontline practitioners to provide effective pain management is the overarching mission of PAINWeek, now the largest US pain conference. In 2011, PAINWeek welcomed over 1500 healthcare practitioners from a variety of medical specialties, compelling evidence of the substantial interest in pain management by frontline clinicians. For 2012, PAINWeek is preparing noteworthy enhancements to its conference agenda, including a new therapeutic track on the management of pain conditions often associated with diabetes. This program will augment the annual offering of approximately 14 different course concentrations in the PAINWeek curriculum, the most comprehensive conference of certified pain management education available.
