HALIFAX, May 20, 2012 /CNW/ - Dairy Farmers of Canada (DFC) today
released its Recharge Radio workout app, a set of five customizable
playlists designed to increase the endurance and enjoyment of your
workout. Recharge Radio is the latest innovation in DFC's Recharge
with Milk program dedicated to educating athletes about the
post-workout recovery benefits of chocolate milk.
Earlier today, at the ninth running of the Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon
in Halifax, a flash mob of 80 dancers energized the runners and
bystanders alike by working out in unison to an upbeat song. Clad in a
Recharge with Milk outfit, they ended their heart pumping performance
by chugging cartons of chocolate milk and unveiling a giant QR code to
download the free Recharge Radio app.
"The Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon provides a great opportunity for the
Recharge with Milk team to reach a community of very physically active
people who can greatly benefit from the recharging power of chocolate
milk," says Solange Heiss, assistant director, marketing and nutrition
communications. "Dairy Farmers of Canada is proud to be a sponsor of
this event and help energize the participants even more with our new
Recharge Radio app and our surprise flash mob."
The Recharge Radio app was developed by Twist Image in conjunction with
Sirius Radio and is compatible with all smart phones. To customize
their Recharge Radio workout, users choose from one of five playlists
and program in the length of their workout. Scientific studies have
shown that certain music can actually increase a person's physical
endurance by up to 15 per cent.
"People enjoy working out more when they are listening to their
favourite songs," said Dr. Len Kravitz, professor of Exercise Science
at the University of New Mexico. "Music provides us with exercise
gains, which can increase endurance, strength or speed and make a
workout better. It's great that people can download the Recharge Radio
app and take their workout to the next level."
Dr. Kravitz's research on the effects of music on exercise inspired the
development of the app and the selection of music included.
"The Recharge Radio app aims to really get people pumped up and working
out better," says Heiss. "This compliments our overall Recharge with
Milk program - work out hard and then recharge with chocolate milk."
Studies show drinking chocolate milk after intense exercise helps you
rehydrate, refuel and recharge to get ready for tomorrow's workout. To
achieve the maximum benefits, athletes should drink chocolate milk
within 15 to 30 minutes of a long run or hard workout.
