Divine Brown, Glass Tiger, DiscoNation, and Michael Burgess named as The
Weekend's entertainment while Rose Reisman Catering and The Pickle
Barrel join as official event caterers & Saturday evening dinner
sponsors.
TORONTO, April 29, 2012 /CNW/ - The Weekend To End Women's Cancers
released exciting details of this year's event activities citing a
world-class entertainment line-up, premium catering sponsorships and
plans for an all new Friday Night Pre-Party during its annual Weekend
Extravaganza training walk & expo on Sunday. The announcement is part
of a broader effort by The Toronto Weekend and The Princess Margaret
Hospital Foundation to create an unprecedented event experience
commemorating the event's 10th year.
"2012 is a particularly notable year for The Shoppers Drug Mart Weekend
To End Women's Cancers, as it marks our 10-year anniversary holding
this extraordinary event," said Paul Alofs, President & CEO of the
Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, beneficiary of The Toronto
Weekend.
"It has been nine straight years, and our Weekend Walkers have worked
tirelessly, year-round to raise money, secure donations, plan
fundraising events, recruit participants, and everything else that's
involved with raising an impressive $123 million for The Princess
Margaret Hospital Foundation. That's why we put significant thought,
care & detail into this year's "10-Year Strong" event activities. We
are aiming to create an unforgettable Weekend experience," he added.
On Friday, September 7th, an Official Pre-Party at the Sheraton Centre Toronto will kick off
Weekend activities, where Juno Award-winning Canadian soul songstress,
Divine Brown, will give participants an exclusive live music
performance.
On Saturday, five-time Juno Award winners and Grammy nominees, Glass
Tiger, will perform, followed by Canada's premiere live disco tribute
show-band, DiscoNation, to close out the evening.
On Sunday, The Weekend closing ceremonies will feature a performance by
acclaimed tenor and musical theatre legend, Michael Burgess, who
performed a leading role as Jean Valjean in "Les Miserables."
Alofs also announced notable catering partnerships as The Pickle Barrel
and Rose Reisman Catering joined The Weekend as the official event
caterers and exclusive sponsors of the Saturday evening dinner.
Rose Reisman, best-selling author, Canadian health & nutrition expert,
and owner & chef of Rose Reisman Catering, was on-hand to speak about
her personal involvement with The Weekend.
"This partnership is particularly important to me because I have so many
people in my life who are dealing with cancer," said Rose Reisman, who
is a 2012 registered Weekend Walker.
"I am absolutely thrilled and honoured to serve my signature 'Art of
Living Well' menu items to my fellow walkers, crew and volunteers at
The Shoppers Drug Mart Weekend To End Women's Cancers in Toronto. To
ensure everyone involved enjoys healthy, energizing, and delicious meal
choices is a meaningful, dream come true and a chance for me and my
teams to support the incredible efforts by The Princess Margaret to
conquer cancer in our lifetime," she added.
Alofs noted the overall efforts around treating Weekend Walkers, crew
and volunteers to a world-class experience in year 10, is the very
least The Foundation could do in comparison to overall impact Weekend
Walkers and their Donors have made supporting The Foundation's goal to
conquer cancer in our lifetime. In nine years, The Toronto Weekend has
raised more than $123 million for cancer research, clinical
enhancements and survivorship programs at The Princess Margaret, and
funds raised through this year's event will contribute to The
Foundation's recently announced "Billion Dollar Challenge," which aims
to create and implement Personalized Cancer Medicine at The Princess
Margaret.
"We greatly thank all of the entertainers, caterers and sponsors for
helping us to make this year's Weekend unforgettable and I personally
invite everyone to join in September by registering now by visiting www.endcancer.ca or by calling 416.815.9255," said Alofs.
