Product Launch at Kentucky Rolex 3 Day Event - Automatic Hay Soaker
The Soaker, a new invention that automatically fills, soaks, and drains for the purpose of providing the horse with clean, rehydrated, and soaked hay.
LEXINGTON, KY, April 28, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Soaker is a new invention that is creating quite the buzz at the Trade Show at the Kentucky Rolex 3 day event. Sure, keeping hay dry is necessary for storage - like most of our own dry food (grains, rice, beans, etc.), but dry may not be the easiest or healthiest way we should eat it! " My horse Moose dunks his hay. He knows that it should be clean and wet." state Linda Brown of Chicago. Often recommended by veterinarians as a preventative treatment, soaking dry feed or hay in water can increase the overall health of a horse by significantly reducing excess sugars and commercial contaminants while naturally increasing the horse's hydration. After grass has been cut, dried and baled, its natural water content has been drastically reduced from about 80% to less than 10%. This water reduction actually increases the feed's concentrations of sugar, potassium, acidity, and contaminants. Soaking hay is a proactive approach to reduce the associated risks of numerous equine ailments caused by feeding dry hay before they occur.
Anyone who has ever soaked hay knows the tedious, messy, time consuming, and backbreaking labor involved. Standing with the hose, filling buckets of hay with water, dumping the dirty water, Hauling sopping hay, getting wet two to three times a day for your horse - there must be a better way to get the same benefit.
Made in the U.S.A., "The Soaker", an invention by Jennifer azevedo, is a nonelectric automatic hay and feed soaker. Yes, automatic without electricity. It is a timed, portable, self-contained unit and only requires a pressurized water source to be automated. It is a completely water-powered unit. Once connected to a water source with hoses and timers, The Soaker will fill, soak, and drain automatically leaving your horse's food cleaned and hydrated every time like clockwork. It even functions below freezing temperatures.
Dressage rider, trainer and clinician, Volker Brommann explains, "The Soaker is a time and labor saver. It does a better job soaking the hay than we can with a bucket and net." The Soaker can provide freshly soaked hay at feeding time. Up to 4 flakes can be loaded, automatically soaked and drained, then removed in the crate and fed. Just set the timers to repeat automatically or manually soak as necessary. The unit can be wheeled directly to the horse if desired by detaching the connecting hoses, or the hay can be carried in the crate insert.
In a barn setting multiple units can be time-overlapped for multiple horses and meal times through the day. The Soaker's design can divert run-off water from the unit to the desired location inside or outside the barn. Since The Soaker requires no electricity, there is no risk of causing an electrical barn fire.
Azevedo was inspired to invent The Soaker for her off-the-track Thoroughbred named Max (follow his story at akaprojectmax.blogspot.com). When Azevedo rescued Max, he was foundering in all four feet and was 250 pounds underweight. After researching remedies for Max's ailments, Azevedo immediately began soaking Max's feed at dawn, with a bucket, three times a day, seven days a week. This was a back breaking, wet, and all consuming chore. "I was getting up at 5:30 in the morning to soak his hay. I knew there had to be an easier and more reliable way" states Azevedo.
Creation started for a unit that effectively and automatically replaced the manual labor of soaking hay. After twelve months and ten prototypes by Azevedo, the goal was achieved and The Soaker was patented. "Portability and reliability is the key. My horse depends on the benefits of soaked hay." says Azevedo. Find more info and follow Max at www.justsoakit.com
