Bluemont BBQ Bash Draws Champions, Fans, and Families for Summertime Fun July 28

>PRWEB.COM Newswire

(PRWEB) April 25, 2012

Mark your calendar on July 28 for a day of classic American cuisine in the heart of Washington, DC’s wine country. Great Country Farms is hosting an official KCBS (Kansas City Barbecue Society) State Certified BBQ Competition that draws competitors from throughout the mid Atlantic region. Only one champion per state can compete for the national title so all eyes will be watching this contest. Although the judging is serious, the fun never stops and there’s plenty to see and do while awaiting the final results. 2011 Champion Kit Rudd says “BBQ is a communal activity and this event captures the spirit of sharing and fun. The family farm setting and rolling hills provide a perfect backdrop for inspired cooking and eating!” The weekend includes farm style family activities, wine tastings, the Blackberry Bonanza Dessert Competition (open to all), and you can even purchase a token to judge some of these mouth watering dishes yourself sponsored by Cookology and with a portion of the proceeds helping Loudoun Interfaith Relief, a local area food bank.

The Farm’s blackberries will be at their peak and ready to pick. Kids love the unique 5 acre play ground that includes a 23 ‘jumping pillow, a rope maze, tractor rides and more. Backyard BBQ masters can rise to the next level just as 2011 champion Kit Rudd went on to place 10th in the national competition. Just a few years earlier, he and his wife were simply visitors out to enjoy the day. Owner Kate Zurschmeide notes “While we all enjoy the excitement of the contest, the best part is the energy, fun, and creativity inspired by great food and great people.”
