Subaru entrants claim top five spots in the final rally of the season
TORONTO, Nov. 28, 2011 /CNW/ - Subaru teams dominated the field, leaving
no room on the podium after claiming first, second and third place in
the final event of the 2011 Canadian Rally Championship season. In
total, Subaru entrants claimed seven spots in the top ten at the Rally
of the Tall Pines, held November 25 and 26 in Bancroft, Ontario.
After establishing a lead in the event over Subaru Rally Team USA driver
David Higgins and co-driver Craig Drew, Subaru Rally Team Canada driver
Pat Richard and returning co-driver Alan Ockwell set a stable pace for
the duration of the event. Ultimately, a flat tire cost the pair three
crucial minutes, propelling driver Crazy Leo Urlichich and co-driver
Martin Brady into first place in their 2007 Subaru WRX STI. Determined
to take the lead once again, Richard and Ockwell battled their way back
until they were forced to retire due to mechanical difficulties after a
jump, leaving second place to Higgins and Drew as Urlichich claimed his
first ever national victory. It was also a full sweep of the podium by
Subaru, thanks to third-place finishers Bruno Carre and Yvan Joyal, but
not quite enough for ultimate victory as Subaru missed the
manufacturer's title by just one point.
"We're very excited about the potential for winning the championship
again in 2012, which would make it my fifth Canadian Rally Championship
driver's title and Subaru's eleventh manufacturer's title," said
Richard. "We look forward to being back again in full force."
The Canadian Rally Championship returns in February, 2012, with the
Rallye Perce Neige near Maniwaki, Quebec.
