Drexel University Online to Host Awards Ceremony in Honor of National Distance Learning Week November 7-11

The United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) is promoting changes in higher education and online learning through its annual National Distance Learning Week (NDLW) from November 7 through 11. NDLW is a yearly initiative to generate greater awareness and appreciation for distance learning in K-12 education, higher education, home schooling, and business, military, government and government markets.

Drexel University Online is hosting an awards ceremony at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8 in the Atrium of the Edmund D. Bossone Research Enterprise Center (Market Street, between 31st and 32nd Streets) to recognize Drexel University faculty members who have made a significant contribution to the field of distance or online learning.

“Drexel University is proud to honor our outstanding faculty who teach online,” said Dr. Kenneth Hartman, president of Drexel University Online. “Thanks to them, Drexel is at the forefront of distance learning in higher education.”

The event will feature speaker Josh Fischman, senior writer at The Chronicle of Higher Education, discussing the role of technology in higher education and distance learning.

Ms. Lee McDaid – College of Medicine
Dr. Arunkumar Madapusi – LeBow College of Business

Dr. Charles Cook – Goodwin College: School of Technology and Professional Studies

Over 5.6 million students are currently taking at least one online class with the number growing every year. Of those 5.6 million, over 200,000 K-12 students are enrolled in full-time online schools and over 2 million K-12 students are enrolled in an online course. During the week of November 7 through 11, schools, colleges, businesses and government agencies across the country will be showcasing their online programs.
