The American Caribbean Maritime Foundation Announces Virtual 2020 Gala, Exclusive Benefit Event To Support Caribbean Student Maritime Education

Jewett City, CT The American Caribbean Maritime Foundation, a nonprofit foundation with a mission of alleviating poverty and transforming through maritime education and community development, has announced the Anchor Awards 2020, a virtual benefit gala on October 2, 2020.

An exclusive benefit event, the virtual gala will help the ACMF fund full-tuition and room board scholarships, and laptops for low-income Caribbean students in the maritime industry, many of whom are the first in their families to attend college. With this generous charitable event, Caribbean students will be able to complete their education in the upcoming academic year and get extra support overcoming unprecedented challenges. While the COVID-19 pandemic has put thousands of Caribbean students at risk, the ACMF is leading the charge to keep the next generation of maritime professionals on track with their education and build a thriving maritime sector, one of the most critical in the Caribbean economy.

“The work of the foundation has never been more critical than now when already financially challenged students are struggling to continue their education online, and many others are left without devices to do so,” commented Dr. Geneive Brown Metzger, President of the American Caribbean Maritime Foundation. “We are looking forward to an extraordinary gala that reaches more people through its virtual delivery.”

The Anchor Awards 2020 will honor two of the maritime industry’s top brass who have been recognized as proud partners of the Caribbean. A prestigious honor, the designation is a testament to supporting maritime education and Caribbean community development.  “I am very proud of our honorees, Win Thurber, Chairman and CEO of Norton Lilly International; and Rick Sasso, Chairman of MSC Cruises USA,” remarked Captain Remy Vyzelman, Gala Chair, and past Anchor Awards honoree. “Both these gentlemen have been such committed partners in the Caribbean and continuously support the critical maritime sector.”

Tickets are $150 each, and along with sponsorships can be purchased on the ACMF website at https://gala.acmfdn.org/.
