'Red Bird' Flight Simulator Enhances Learning Experience at Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology

>PRWEB.COM Newswire

Tulsa, OK (PRWEB) November 01, 2011

Almost a year has passed since Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology introduced advanced flight simulation technology into its curriculum. And in that time, school administrators have found that the full-motion flight simulation training device called the Redbird has enriched student learning and improved general flight skills for its students.

The Redbird is an Advanced Aviation Training Device (AATD), which is a superior-quality, feature-rich simulator that includes wraparound visuals and a fully enclosed, reconfigurable cockpit. The flight simulator provides a number of training features, including:

  • Scenario-based training compatibility
  • 200-degree wraparound visuals
  • Portable instructor panel software
  • A user-defined missions database
  • Quick-change cockpit configurations
  • A unique pilot key system
  • A complete terrain and airport database

“The Red Bird has been an exciting addition to our program that had truly expanded our students’ learning opportunities because it ‘flies’ like the real thing,” said Jeremy D. Gibson, CEO/president of Spartan College. “This simulator allows students to experience endless hands-on training scenarios that prepare them for a career in aviation with increased confidence and knowledge.”

Spartan is proud of this much needed addition to its ground training flight program. The cockpit has the capability to be configured as a 172 airplane with conventional gauges and, by removing and adding a panel, it can be flown as a 172 with the latest Garmin FMX1000 package. There is also a quick change panel and throttle quadrant to configure the simulator as a Piper PA-44 twin-engine airplane.

Through a laptop computer, instructors have the ability to simulate all types of weather and aircraft problems while students fly the Redbird. With a maximum 60 degree yaw, 50 degree pitch and 40 degree roll, students become immersed in the movement and soon forget that it is only a simulation.
