Apeksha Vora, a graduate of the University of London International Programmes, has been awarded a £20,000 scholarship by the Sir Ratan Tata Trust (SRTT), to study International Development in the UK.
Apeksha begins her scholarship-funded Masters in International Development this month at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Sussex.
She said: “Being a scholar of the Trust will open up several avenues for me to work in India once I’ve completed my Masters at the IDS, which is renowned for its cutting-edge research in developing countries across the world.”
Apeksha, who studied for the University of London awards through distance learning, with teaching support from Russell Square International College (RSIC) in Mumbai, attributes her success to the University of London’s internationally recognised academic awards: "Not only does the International Programmes open avenues because of its reputation, but it has also opened up real opportunities for me by changing my perception of the world.”
She completed three awards through the University of London International Programmes: a Diploma in Economics, BSc in Economics and Management, and a further Diploma for Graduates in International Development.
“From the start”, Apeksha said, “the quality of the University of London International Programmes was higher than I had ever studied before. I found it challenging and more importantly, it made me question the world around me.”
She explained: “The inter-disciplinary nature of the programmes I studied meant that I was able to discover other subjects, which sparked my interest in Development Economics, and subsequently, International Development. Through my studies, I finally decided that I wanted to engage with development research.”
She added: “Without being taught at the level I was, with the University of London International Programmes, I would not have driven myself to choose the career path I’m following today.”
