ASIS 2011 Draws More Than 20,000 to Orlando

>PRWEB.COM Newswire

Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) October 06, 2011

More than 20,000 security professionals from 104 countries attended the ASIS International 57th Annual Seminar and Exhibits (ASIS 2011), held in Orlando, Fla., Sept. 19-22. Owned and operated by ASIS, the leading organization for security management professionals worldwide, this annual conference delivers the most comprehensive education and networking available in the security industry.

“ASIS 2011 surpassed all expectations,” said ASIS President Raymond T. O’Hara, CPP. “Many firsts contributed to its success, including partnering with (ISC)2, the DHS Secretary addressing attendees, and the launch of a systems integrator education track. From the packed session rooms to the bustling show floor, it’s clear that the ASIS Seminar & Exhibits is the place for security practitioners to find the tools and education needed to excel in the global marketplace.”

Covering more than 230,000 net square feet of the Orange County Convention Center, 731 companies exhibited a wide array of security solutions. Leading-edge innovations in access control, IP-based video surveillance, and explosion detection were among those demonstrated, as were new and enhanced service offerings.

“This is the second ASIS show that our new booth was showcased at and the traffic was exceptional,” said Stephan Kaiser, director of North America Sales, Genetec. “What makes this event an essential part of our plans every year is the fact that we do notice an increase, not only in overall traffic, but also in end-user traffic and general interest in our line of IP security solutions.”

The colocation of the (ISC)2 Security Congress with ASIS 2011, provided attendees from both organizations the opportunity to network with their security counterpart. ASIS and (ISC)2, the largest not-for-profit membership body of certified information security professionals worldwide, will continue to build upon this collaboration in the year ahead.

At the Sept. 21, annual Law Enforcement/Military Appreciation Day Luncheon, DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano announced a new partnership between ASIS and DHS on the "If You See Something, Say Something™" public awareness campaign. At her first appearance at an ASIS event, Napolitano underscored the importance of public-private partnerships, by emphasizing “homeland security begins with hometown security – it begins with law enforcement, security professionals, first responders, businesses, and individuals.”

ASIS 2011 also saw the launch of a new systems integrator track, a series of educational sessions endorsed by the PSA Security Network, to help integrators better market their services and reinforce their value to current and prospective clients.

In addition, more than 130 senior security executives from a dozen countries registered for CSO Roundtable events, which included a personal briefing with DHS Secretary Napolitano. Special programming was also offered for young professionals and women in security.

More than 200 education sessions on topics ranging from workplace violence, mobile security, and crisis management offered practitioners a wealth of opportunities to gain new knowledge, best practices, and strategies in security management.

The third annual ASIS Accolades, an awards competition open to all exhibitors, recognized the security industry’s most innovative new products, services and/or solutions on the show floor. A team of judges representing end users and experts in physical security and cyber technologies reviewed more than 70 entries before selecting the top 10 winners.

Keynote speakers included Florida Governor Jeb Bush (1999-2007), Mexico President (2000-2006) Vicente Fox, and aviation pioneer Burt Rutan.

The 2nd annual ASIS Hub provided attendees and those at home with a one-stop shop for all things Seminar—from hundreds of event photos to program updates to video interviews and select education offerings.

A DVD or online access of all recorded education sessions is available online.

Preliminary attendance figures indicate a three percent increase over 2010 numbers. ASIS conducts an independent audit of registrations at the ASIS Seminar and Exhibits and final verified figures will be available soon.

Plans for the 58th Annual Seminar and Exhibits, taking place Sept.10-13 in Philadelphia, are well underway. More than 85 percent of the booth space is already sold. The deadline for the call for presentations is Feb. 27, 2012.
