Vista Host Raised Over $260,000 For St. Jude Children's Research Hospital® In 2018 With Revolutionary Hotel Housekeeping Service Model

A ground-breaking platform for hotels to help save the environment and help save children's lives

Jan. 16, 2019 / PRZen / HOUSTON -- In January of 2018, Vista Host Hotel Development & Management partnered with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital® located in Memphis, Tennessee. "We embarked on this journey with three objectives. Given the staffing shortages prevalent throughout our industry, we aimed to reduce the number of rooms that need to be cleaned on a daily basis. We strived to mirror the sustainability benefits associated with Marriott's "Green Choice" program, whereby a guest can opt to forego housekeeping service for loyalty program points, thus having positive, measurable impacts on the environment. Lastly, we were committed to eclipse all known existing hotel platforms to integrate both aforementioned sets of advantages, while at the same time making a difference in the world in a rather profound manner which transcends a nominal granting of rewards points. When considering a potential partner with whom we could write a new story, it took little time to select St. Jude, an organization whose purpose demonstrates the quintessence of hope," said COO, Joe Viglietta. "Just imagine what a company like Hilton or Marriott could do with 5000+ hotels adopting such an initiative."

Vista Host hotels, which currently number near 40 Hilton and Marriott properties, offer their guests the opportunity to forego housekeeping stayover service in exchange for the hotel donating $3.00 to St. Jude. This opportunity allows the hotels and their guests to reduce their carbon footprint by lessening the number of chemicals and water used for laundry, while donating the money saved to St. Jude and investing in future generations. Vista Host's original goal for the 2018 year was to raise $100,000 for St. Jude, which, at first, was a bold target. After a huge positive response from the guests staying at the hotels, Vista Host was able to raise an impressive total of $266,781.20 for the year of 2018. "We are so proud of these results: the associates who drove our new initiative and the guests who recognized the impact they could make simply by foregoing housekeeping services. But, we won't stop here. In 2019, Vista Host has raised the bar and will raise over $350,000 through our life-saving program," said Tatum Kane, VP Sales & Marketing.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. It is the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children. Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to 80 percent since the hospital opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90 percent, and we won't stop until no child dies from cancer. St. Jude freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children. Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.

"We are overwhelmed with the positive feedback and touching stories that we have received from our guests. Many travelers have committed to staying at our properties more often for the knowledge that they have the opportunity to aid in the fight for children's lives," said Director of Operational Performance and Profitability, Katy Smith. "We look forward to what is ahead, and we invite you to help us reach our new goal of $350,000 in 2019."
