He possesses a wealth of knowledge in the fields of gift and estate planning, wealth transfer, family business succession planning and nonprofit organizations, providing trusted legal counsel to individuals, families and businesses throughout the region. Within his practice, his expertise is also in development incentives, commercial real estate finance and tax planning.
Thoms received his undergraduate degree (BA) from Kalamazoo College (Kalamazoo, Michigan, 1970), his Master of Urban Planning degree (MUP) from Wayne State University (Detroit, Michigan, 1975), his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree (JD) from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law (Detroit, Michigan, 1979), and advanced his law certification with a global credibility through the acquisition of a Master of Laws degree (LLM) with a concentration in taxation, from Wayne State University Law School (Detroit, Michigan, 1988).
Thoms was admitted to practice in New York and Michigan as well as the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Michigan.
