Massachusetts Man’s E-Cig Explodes In Hotel Room, As E-Cigarette Explosion Lawsuit Case Total Rises’s Marc Freund outlined a recent development in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, where a local man sustained second-degree burns to his left hand after his e-cigarette battery exploded. Freund wishes the man a complete recovery from the emotional and physical trauma he sustained, and encouraged him to seek legal counsel. Freund noted that as e-cigs have grown in popularity, the rate of explosions has also increased significantly, typically leaving victims with severe burns, cuts, and other trauma.

According to a local CBS Boston affiliate, on Saturday, July 2, 2016, a 47-year-old man sustained severe burns to his left hand, when his e-cigarette exploded in the early morning while charging. Firefighters arrived at the hotel at about 3 a.m. and found minor smoke and fire damage to the victim’s room. At the time the victim was being treated at the hotel for second-degree burns to his left hand.

This incident is the third e-cigarette explosion accident in Massachusetts to date, and the 81st e-cig explosion in 2016 so far, indicated by in their detailed e-cigarette explosion timeline. The 81 explosions in 2016 to date is nearly equivalent to the combined totals of e-cigarette explosions in 2015 (47) and 2014 (38), and 2016’s total is on pace to exceed 140 explosions. Furthermore, the combined totals of 2016, 2015, and 2014 equate to over 75 % of all reported e-cigarette explosions to date, emphasizing the sharp increase in frequency that has accompanied the growing popularity of e-cigs.
