Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner Appoints Fashion Designer Steve Guthrie to LGBT Advisory Board

Jul. 6, 2016 / PRZen / HOUSTON -- Steve Guthrie, owner and designer of Steve Guthrie Contemporary Womenswear, was appointed to the Mayor's inaugural LGBT Advisory Board by Mayor Sylvester Turner. The announcement came at the end of LGBT Pride month.

The board, with 49 representative members, is symbolic of those who lost their lives in the Orlando, Florida Pulse nightclub attack earlier in the month. Members will operate through committees as a direct link to the Mayor's office, providing advice and recommendations on issues affecting the LGBT community in Houston, one of the largest populations in Texas.

Steve is honored to participate. He is looking forward to providing expertise and insight as an openly gay small business owner, a college professor, a seasoned business consultant, and as a family man who has two stepdaughters, two grandkids, and three godchildren.

After years consulting with energy, technology and retail clients to improve productivity and performance through a mixture of education, project management and change management, Steve launched his contemporary womenswear on Black Friday 2015 ( He had previously worked with Mansoor Scott in San Francisco, California, as a design assistant. He has also taught in the Fashion Design and Merchandising department at Houston Community College for the past five years.
