"I always try to think how I can prevent cardiac disease as well as treat it. At the time I was in medical school, it was the highest cause of mortality. It affected more people than anything else. Today, it is still the highest cause of mortality – even higher than cancer – but I'm happy to say that we have made so much improvement in prevention and early treatment that it's decreased dramatically."
As a thought-leader in his field, Dr. Ciafone is sought after as a consultant by physicians in Connecticut. After four decades in medicine, he shows no sign of slowing down. As a caring physician his aim is to continue advancing the quality of care he offers his patients. He noted:
"In the field of congestive heart failure important advances in pharmacological and invasive therapies are extending life as well as improving its quality. When I was in medical school in New York City, they would ship people up from Wall Street all the time - men and women in their 30's and 40's with heart attacks. There has been a decrease in the incidence and mortality of such event. I think this decrease will continue."
