The new Institute of Regenerative Medicine, which will be completed in the fall of 2012, will house key scientific and discovery operations on the LifeNet Health campus in the Princess Anne section of Virginia Beach. The 42,000-square-foot modern facility will be the first of its kind in the United States.

Once completed and functional, the Institute will house over 50 medical, scientific and research staff members focusing on the science of developing regenerative medicine products for patients all over the world and will serve as a global center of excellence for research and development.

While LifeNet Health has always been in the regenerative medicine arena, the new Institute will focus and solidify its efforts in developing cellular therapies, tissue engineering and new medical applications for allografts to maximize the gift of donation.

LifeNet Health President and CEO, Rony Thomas stated, "Next year LifeNet Health will celebrate 30 years of pursuing its mission of 'Saving Lives and Restoring Health.' Today, we are taking the first steps in developing the next generation of medical solutions. As we break ground for the Institute, we are investing in state-of-the-art technologies to provide innovative products for patients around the world who suffer from injury or disease." Joining Mr. Thomas at the ground breaking ceremony will be patients, recipients, donor families, and the Mayor of Virginia Beach, The Honorable William D. Sessoms, Jr.

About LifeNet Health: LifeNet Health helps to save lives and restore health for thousands of patients each year. We are the world's most trusted provider of transplant solutions, from organ procurement to new innovations in bio-implant technologies and cellular therapies—a leader in the field of regenerative medicine, while always honoring the donors and healthcare professionals that allow the healing process.
