PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 4, 2014
PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Up to one million men and women are expected to leave the military in the next five years. Civilian employers are always looking for alternative means to attract veteran talent to their organizations. To do so, dozens of veteran-friendly employers are planning to host the Veterans Day Virtual Career Fair on November 11, 2014 in partnership with Veteran Recruiting
"Veterans possess the skills, training, education, and character that all employers would seek in any new hire, and we are honored to have the opportunity to connect them with companies who are eager to hire them through our virtual career fairs," said Kevin O'Brien, Managing Partner of Veteran Recruiting.
The virtual career fair is an efficient and effective way for veterans and recruiters to connect, in real time, and regardless of their actual location. Since September 2011, more than 94,000 veterans and military spouses have been hired by the companies who have utilized Veteran Recruiting virtual career fairs.
"We use a variety of resources to help attract top quality candidates to consider growing a career at Eaton, and one of the most convenient resources we have been effectively using is the Virtual Job Fair, like those operated by Veteran Recruiting," said George Bernholer, the company's senior military talent acquisition consultant. "From the convenience of being right at your desk, you are able to engage outstanding candidates who could be anywhere in the world and move them forward with the hiring process." "Recently, Eaton has hired three Transitioning Military Professionals (TMP) who started their engagement with Eaton through this process," Bernholer added.
A partial list of the companies who will participate in the Veterans Day event include: Aetna, Alorica, Apple, Aramark, CACI, Charles Schwab & Co., Inc., Citi, Comcast NBC Universal, Convergys, Covanta, Eaton, Enterprise Holdings Inc., Exelon, Frontier Communications, Graybar, Hackensack University Medical Center, IBM, Intercontinental Hotels Group, JP Morgan Chase, Kaiser Permanente, Kellogg, Lowe's, Penske, Penske Automotive Group, PepsiCo, Philips, Pfizer, Progressive, The Mission Continues, Travelers, Tyco, Union Pacific, USAA, USDA, Verizon, Waste Management, WellPoint, Western & Southern Life, and Xerox.
"With the help of the Veteran Recruiting virtual career fairs, Travelers has been able to reach a broad base of those with military experience as well as military spouses, across the country," said Jim McMahon, director, Talent Acquisition & Military Outreach at Travelers. "The ability to connect with veterans remotely has been the perfect complement to our other outreach activities."
Unlike a traditional career fair that requires the job seeker and company to travel to a physical venue, those wishing to participate in the virtual career fair can do so from anywhere with internet access. More than 23,000 service members, veterans, and military spouses have registered to participate, and over 71,000 jobs are available by the companies who will attend.
"Veteran Recruiting virtual career fairs align well with our nationwide offices and team of associates working remotely," said Deborah Meyer, Talent Acquisition Manager at WellPoint, Inc. "This increased reach enabled us to connect with an experienced Veteran joining our organization at a new Texas location managing our customer service representatives."
The virtual career fair is scheduled for November 11, 2014, from 1-4 PM EST, and is open to all active duty, reservist, veteran, and military spouses who may be seeking employment at www.veteranrecruiting.com.
