Xarelto Lawsuit Alleges Man's Death from Uncontrollable Brain Bleeding Was Caused by Xarelto, Bernstein Liebhard LLP Reports

The family of a Vermont man who died from uncontrollable brain bleeding has filed a Xarelto lawsuit ( ) alleging his death was caused by the blood thinner, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. According to the complaint, which was filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Vermont on July 25th, the decedent had been taking Xarelto for just 10 days when he suffered an irreversible brain bleed that ultimately led to his death on August 1, 2013. Among other things, the lawsuit claims Bayer Healthcare and Janssen Pharmaceuticals withheld information from consumers and the medical community about the lack of an approved antidote for Xarelto's bleeding side effects. (Case No. 2:14-cv-00159-cr)

"The claims included in this complaint echo those put forth in several other Xarelto lawsuit filings currently pending in U.S. courts. Our Firm has also heard from a number of Xarelto patients who allegedly suffered similar complications," says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is currently offering Xarelto case reviews to people who allegedly suffered serious injuries from the blood thinner, including uncontrollable bleeding, strokes, deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism.

Xarelto Bleeding Allegations
According to a recent Reuters report, the Vermont claim is just one of several cases pending in U.S. courts that involve Xarelto.* Court documents indicate that a number of these Xarelto lawsuits similarly allege that the medication was wrongly marketed as an improvement over warfarin when it was first launched by Bayer and Janssen in 2011. Among other things, plaintiffs point out that while both can cause internal bleeding, this occurrence can be halted in warfarin patients via the administration of vitamin K. There is currently no approved antidote for reversing Xarelto bleeding.

Last month, the Institute for Safe Medicine Practices reported that adverse events associated with the use of Xarelto are on the rise. According to data from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), the agency received a total of 680 Xarelto adverse event reports in the first quarter of 2013. For the first time, reports of Xarelto complications outpaced those associated with Pradaxa, another blood thinner in the same class, according to the ISMP.**

Alleged victims of Xarelto bleeding may be entitled to take legal action against the manufacturers of the blood thinner. Learn more about filing a Xarelto lawsuit by visiting Bernstein Liebhard LLP's website, or by calling 800-511-5092 to schedule a free, no obligation case review.
