Airbus Defense and Space Holds First C212 Aircraft Operators Conference in Mobile, Alabama

MOBILE, AL--(Marketwired - Jul 17, 2014) - Airbus Defense and Space's U.S. military aircraft unit recently held its first operators conference in Mobile, Ala. Approximately thirty representatives from business and government owners of C212 aircraft fleets attended from five different countries. Operators participated from Alaska, Oregon, Florida, North Carolina and Wyoming in the U.S., as well as from Chile, Australia, Spain and Argentina.

As part of the unit's service improvement and expansion plans, the speakers at the customer-focused conference outlined goals to grow business capabilities in repair and overhaul of various Airbus aircraft and components. The conference allowed current and new customers from all over the world to talk with Airbus technicians and learn about the benefits of the company's aircraft repair and maintenance experience.

Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson visited with conference participants to express his support for the event. "Airbus is one of our most valued corporate citizens, and it was my pleasure to help them welcome the operators conference to Mobile," he said. "We're proud of our relationship with Airbus and grateful for the opportunity to help showcase the great work they do in Mobile."

"The conference allowed closer interaction with our clients and showcased our services and capabilities, in order to improve our overall operations and increase our business to help expand our footprint and workforce in Mobile," said Juan Uriarte, head of Airbus Defense and Space U.S. military aircraft services. "We are pushing more resources into this location to provide faster service at competitive prices."

In February, the company opened a new 7,500-square-foot component repair facility, expanding on the company's 30,000-square-foot maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) delivery center that opened at Mobile Regional Airport in 2009. The component repair facility is yet another industrial resource to improve customer service for the company's medium and light multi-mission aircraft operators. The new services include hydraulic, avionics, composite and structural repairs, painting, component exchange and highly skilled engineering support.

A member of the larger Airbus family, Airbus Defense and Space's U.S. military aircraft unit offers MRO services, complete component repair, extensive material services, professional engineering and technical support for transport aircraft. Its 50-person Mobile operation provides American operators of the C212 and CN235 tactical transports with the capabilities of a certified FAA and European Aviation Safety Agency repair station as well as direct support from the aircraft manufacturer.

Since 1984, Airbus Defense and Space's U.S. military aircraft unit has provided its customers with service based on the most stringent quality standards. The business is located in Mobile to be closer to the unit's largest customer in the U.S., the United States Coast Guard.

The Airbus Defense and Space quality team has over 40 years of MRO experience from component repair to full preventative maintenance inspections. Through its skilled technical services team, the company is able to provide total technical and engineering services support to all operators of Airbus Defense and Space military aircraft products in North America and the growing South America market.

Stocking over 4,500 OEM C212 and CN235 spare parts in its 8,000-square-foot warehouse, the team assures successful operation to North American commercial and military operators through expedient parts delivery.

Some capabilities at the repair facility may support the Airbus A320 Family aircraft assembly line, currently under construction in Mobile. This is the first major manufacturing facility for Airbus in the United States, and represents a $600 million investment in the Gulf Coast region. The Mobile assembly line will ultimately employ 1,000 highly skilled workers and is scheduled to deliver its first aircraft in 2016.
