TOTVS Adopts NoSQL through Partnership with Couchbase
Partnership of Brazilian software company and Silicon Valley startup enables Latin American clients to have access to scalable, enterprise class NoSQL databases on Fluig platform for identity and access management
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., July 7, 2014
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., July 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- TOTVS Labs, the research and development branch of TOTVS, has just partnered with Couchbase, provider of the most complete NoSQL database. TOTVS, the largest software provider in Latin America, is the first Latin American company to partner with Couchbase and will OEM Couchbase Server in the Fluig Platform.
NoSQL databases were created to support the massive growth of data volume, velocity and variety. In comparison to traditional relational databases, which use a rigid schema-based approach, NoSQL can support unexpected changes to an application, massive spikes in concurrent users, as well as store various forms of data, whether it be unstructured, semi-structured or structured.
TOTVS has chosen to OEM Couchbase Server in the Fluig Platform after conducting several benchmarks between Couchbase and other leading NoSQL providers. Couchbase Server outperformed the competition in TOTVS three top criteria: performance, scalability, and availability.
Two trends Big Data and Big Users, are motivating organizations to shift to NoSQL databases. With increasing focus on Big Data in Brazil, TOTVS needs a database that can support the various forms of data that third parties provide. NoSQL databases provide this adaptability so there will be no interruptions from content-structure changes, and TOTVS can continue working with new clients, no matter what data format they use. Big Users refers to the unpredictable, yet very possible, explosive increase or decrease of users overnight. NoSQL databases are able to accommodate these dramatic swings in numbers, allowing TOTVS customers to operate securely under all circumstances.
TOTVS Labs OEMs Couchbase Server on its identity and access management platform, Fluig Identity, which is a key component of the Fluig Platform. This partnership brings improved security, agility, and scalability to the Fluig platform, as well as promotes distribution and adoption of NoSQL databases throughout Latin America.
Vicente Goetten, executive director at TOTVS Labs explains, "Couchbase provides one of the most modern database technologies. Global businesses can use their database to distribute information in a more efficient and economic way." Vicente also mentions that the Fluig Identity platform can be used for identity management for various kinds of information, not just people. "With the rise of the Internet of Things, the volume of identification data we are storing is growing exponentially and our partnership with Couchbase is allowing us to grow quickly and securely."
"We are thrilled that TOTVS has selected Couchbase Server as a foundational piece of the Fluig Identity Platform," said Steven Mih, Vice President of Couchbase Sales and Business Development. "TOTVS is an influential leader in Latin America and its move to Couchbase will build awareness of the need for enterprises to implement a scalable NoSQL infrastructure that supports big data initiatives."
