Safety Investment at Kenora Airport

Enhancing Safety in Northern Ontario

KENORA, ON, Feb. 18, 2014 /CNW/ - The Government of Canada is investing $36,750 from the Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP) for the purchase of a runway condition reporting system which will provide timely, accurate and precise wireless reporting and recording of runway conditions.

  • To date through ACAP, the Kenora Airport has received more than $3.7 million in funding for eight safety projects, including today's announcement. Projects included the replacement of an airfield generator and runway sweeper, the installation of wildlife fencing, and the rehabilitation of runway 07-25.
  • Since the program started, the Government of Canada has invested more than $609 million for 762 projects at 174 airports. Improvements included purchasing/replacing heavy airside mobile equipment; installing wildlife fencing; and rehabilitating runway pavements, airfield lighting and electrical systems.
