Canada NewsWire

OTTAWA, Jan. 22, 2014 /CNW/ - Hydro One announced today that a permanent operations centre which will serve 39,000 customers in the Orléans, Navan, Rockland and the surrounding area will be built at 3450 Frank Kenny Road. By investing in a permanent Orléans operations centre, Hydro One will reduce operation costs and increase productivity by reducing travel time.

"Hydro One is committed to meeting the needs of our customers in the Orléans, Navan and surrounding areas," said Peter Gregg, Chief Operating Officer, Hydro One. "Through investing in the community, we will increase reliability, reduce costs and better serve our customers."

"Supporting energy infrastructure is an investment in Ontario families and communities," said Bob Chiarelli, Minister of Energy. "This new facility demonstrates Hydro One's ongoing commitment to providing reliable energy and reducing costs for their customers."

In addition to the new operations centre, Hydro One is meeting the growing demand for electricity in Orléans and Rockland by investing $33.4 million in a new transmission station. The new station will increase capacity in the area and is expected to be in service in spring 2015. Ottawa Parks and Hydro One are working together to build a cricket pitch in the green space next to the station.

Hydro One delivers electricity safely, reliably and responsibly to homes and businesses across the province of Ontario and owns and operates Ontario's 29,000 km high-voltage transmission network that delivers electricity to large industrial customers and municipal utilities, and a 123,000 km low-voltage distribution system that serves about 1.3 million end-use customers and smaller municipal utilities in the province. Hydro One is wholly owned by the Province of Ontario.
