the Ecology Action Centre in Halifax to receive $5,000 on behalf of
Peter Coade
in Canon's online photo exhibit, "Climate: The View from Here"
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Nov. 22 /CNW/ - Peter Coade from CBC Halifax has
claimed top prize in Canon's Other Side of the Lens online photo
exhibit and charity fundraiser. The initiative challenged 12
high-profile Canadian weather reporters and meteorologists to capture
the theme, "Climate: The View from Here" using a Canon PowerShot SX200
IS digital camera, which was provided by Canon Canada. The online photo
exhibit included images of ferocious rain storms, spectacular
coastlines, unforgettable views, local habitat and more. The photos
were posted online at www.canon.ca/weatherphotos for Canadians to view and vote on their favourite between October 18
and November 18, 2010.
Canon will be making a donation of $5,000 in Peter Coade's name to his
environmental charity of choice, The Ecology Action Centre in Halifax.
Canon will also be donating $20,000 to the David Suzuki Foundation on
behalf of all participants.
"It's been a true pleasure participating in Canon Canada's Other Side of
the Lens initiative as it allowed me to take a closer look at our
environment and discover the powerful effect that we have on it," said
Peter Coade, winning weathercaster for CBC Halifax. "Thanks to the
votes from fellow Canadians, The Ecology Action Centre wins as they
will receive a $5000 donation for projects aimed at building a
healthier, more sustainable Nova Scotia."
"The David Suzuki Foundation would like to thank Canon Canada for this
generous contribution. Climate change is visible all around us, and
raising awareness of its consequences is essential to finding
solutions," said Morag Carter, Program Director, Climate Change and
Clean Energy.
"The photos wonderfully captured a variety of themes whether focusing on
local environments, the power of Mother Nature, or the human influence
on nature," said Colleen Ryan, Senior Director, Corporate
Communications, Canon Canada Inc. "Everything we do at Canon is guided
by our corporate philosophy Kyosei, which means living and working
together for the common good. This year's program was hugely successful
as we were able to support key environmental groups in their efforts to
initiate change while also inspiring Canadians from coast to coast to
go online to participate and connect with photos of their local
environment."
This is Canon's sixth annual Other Side of The Lens program. Previous
years have been done in partnership with Earth Day Canada, Right to
Play and Food Banks Canada.
