AE2S Water Solutions Unveils OpWorks App

>PRWEB.COM Newswire

Grand Forks, N.D. (PRWEB) January 13, 2014

AE2S Water Solutions kicked off 2014 by unveiling a unique web-based application called OpWorks to help municipal and industrial water or wastewater facilities manage their plant operations. The application, which is available for computer and mobile devices, is receiving national attention after being featured in the January issue of the American Water Works Association’s (AWWA) industry magazine, Opflow.

Brian Barclay, AE2S Water Solutions programmer, began developing the application two years ago as a solution for the City of Grand Forks, N.D. It was initially conceived as a digital form of the water treatment plant’s handwritten log system, and expanded to become a flexible framework that can log, query, and report multiple types of data. “OpWorks can be customized to track operational data for any water or wastewater industry straight out of the box,” says Barclay.

There are products on the market that can track lab data and inventory individually, but nothing that efficiently combines the multiple types of relevant data needed to prepare regulatory reports. For instance, OpWorks can track chemical inventory, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) information, and lab data in addition to logging plant operators’ shift notes.

OpWorks was designed to allow plant administrators to develop simple digital worksheets that relate to their unique work environments. Staff members fill in the worksheets with the relevant day-to-day data. The data is archived in a way that can easily be searched. “It’s exciting to be part of a project that could revolutionize the way water and wastewater plant operators across the country do their jobs,” says Barclay.

The City of Grand Forks has been using OpWorks for more than a year now. Hazel Sletten, Grand Forks Water Treatment Plant Superintendent, says the application has streamlined the report generating process. “It is great to have data from a variety of sources available to use for reporting. Reports that used to take half a day or more to track down data summaries can be done in just a few minutes. OpWorks pulls information from our various worksheet entries and on-line trends, calculates a result using built-in formulas and puts information into a reportable format. It’s a much less time and labor intensive process now,” says Sletten.

“Although initially developed for the public utility sector, OpWorks can easily be applied to industries that also deal with water, wastewater, produced water/salt water disposal facilities and assets,” says Andrea Boe, AE2S Water Solutions Business Development Director. The flexibility of the application can be used by industries ranging from food processing to oil field water processing facilities.

OpWorks starts at $4,800 depending on the options selected. The application can be used by large and small municipalities or industries to combine multiple utility functions. For more information about OpWorks, check out
