State Healthcare Exchange "Honor Roll And Delinquent" List: The Failures Outweigh The Fabulous
New Executive Briefing from Decision Resources Group Issues "Report Card" Rating State Exchanges, Comparing Performance Across the Nation in the First Six Weeks
BURLINGTON, Mass., Nov. 20, 2013
BURLINGTON, Mass., Nov. 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Decision Resources Group's expert review of the newly launched state healthcare exchanges finds a few successes among a multitude of issue-laden websites. State exchanges, whether state- or federally-run, opened for business on October 1, 2013, ushering in frustration for many and new health coverage for others. The newly released "State Exchange Report Card" incorporates expert evaluation of each state's exchange on several different criteria, allowing for an objective, like-for-like comparison.
The Briefing also highlights state-run exchanges that have struggled, as well as providing a look ahead to 2014.
Bill Melville, Market Analyst for Decision Resources Group, said: "The noise from healthcare.gov drowned out some early successes. By and large, state exchanges like Washington, Connecticut and Kentucky that stuck to basic functionality sailed through October. Aside from these 'Honor Roll' states, the limping federal web portal sent many grades on our State Exchange Report Card tumbling. After six weeks, projected 2014 enrollment seems overly optimistic, if not totally unreachable. The key question is: can healthcare.gov rebound enough to salvage 2014 or will it sink exchange efforts in 30-plus states?"
Carolyn McMeekin, Vice President of Insight Products for Decision Resources Group, adds: "Not since Lyndon Johnson has a president had the opportunity to recast healthcare in such a profound way. As the United States becomes focused on outcomes and not volume in healthcare, it is aligning with other industrialized nations and coming to terms with the need to manage rising medical costs. But without the technology to reinforce the desire, the status quo will limp along. Unless healthcare.gov is fixed quickly, Obamacare will be less Great Society and more of footnote on mediocrity."
Decision Resources Group is offering an open webinar based on the new "Report Card" and Executive Briefing, which will discuss states considered "Delinquents" as well as those on the "Honor Roll." This webinar will take place December 16th, 2013 at 2 pm Eastern and is open to media, payer, provider, PBM, government and Pharmaceutical executives. Register for the webinar here.
How do state exchanges stack up for readiness, competition and potential to impact their markets? Decision Resources Group experts rate all fifty states plus the District of Columbia on its NEW "State Exchange Report Card." Grades will be updated regularly as new developments occur.
