National Championship of Roller Derby to Be Held in Tulsa, OK Oct. 25-27
Tulsa, OK (PRWEB) October 07, 2013
The winning roller derby teams from regional tournaments held across the United States will compete for the national championship of roller derby, presented by USA Roller Sports (USARS), Oct. 25-27, at the Cox Business Center in Tulsa, OK. The tournament will determine the nation’s best women’s roller derby league and award them the “Seltzer Cup,” sort of a “Stanley Cup” of roller derby. The event will also include an invitational men’s tournament and a junior derby exhibition game. Tickets are $15 for a day pass, $40 for a weekend pass, and available online by visiting http://usarsrollerderby.com/#attend. If tickets are still available on the day of the event, the price will go up to $20 for a day pass, and $50 for a weekend pass at the door; children age 7 and under are free.
“The Seltzer Cup is named for the inventor of the sport of roller derby, Leo Seltzer, back in 1935,” said AJ Epp of USARS. “Like Canada’s Stanley Cup, the Seltzer Cup will carry the names of the nation’s best team on it to be remembered as the sport continues to grow and thrive.”
Roller derby is the world’s fastest-growing women’s sport, with almost 1,500 leagues worldwide, and more than half of them in the United States. Women’s roller derby is one of several sports being considered by the Olympic Committee to be added to as an official Olympic sport.
