Transvaginal Mesh Lawsuits Proceed Against Ethicon Inc., as Federal Court Issues New Order in Preparation for Bellwether Trial, Bernstein Liebhard LLP Reports

More than 10,000 transvaginal mesh lawsuits (http://www.transvaginalmeshlawsuithelp.com/) filed by women who suffered serious vaginal mesh complications, allegedly due to Ethicon Inc.’s Gynecare pelvic mesh products, continue to move forward in U.S. District Court, Southern District of West Virginia, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. According to court documents, a Second Amended Docket Control Order was issued on October 4, 2013 that establishes deadlines for certain matters pertaining to the Ethicon mesh litigation’s first bellwether trial. Court documents indicate that 10,300 transvaginal mesh lawsuits involving Ethicon Gynecare products have been filed in the Southern District of West Virginia. All of the claims pending in the proceeding allege that Gynecare pelvic mesh products were defectively designed and manufactured, and further allege that Ethicon failed to provide doctors and patients with adequate warnings regarding their risks.
Johnson & Johnson and its Ethicon unit are also facing more than 4,400 claims involving vaginal mesh complications that are currently pending in a multicounty litigation underway in New Jersey’s Atlantic County Superior Court.
