American Traffic Solutions Finds Driver Behavior Changing at Florida's Red-Light Safety Camera Intersections

TEMPE, AZ--(Marketwired - September 25, 2013) - Driver behavior at Florida red-light safety camera monitored intersections continues to change according to a recent analysis by American Traffic Solutions (ATS), the nation's leading red-light safety camera provider. ATS found that the number of red-light running violations captured at monitored intersections throughout the state has fallen significantly as drivers have become more accustomed to increased red-light enforcement.

Most importantly, the analysis found that fewer and fewer vehicles are being issued multiple violations. 90 percent of the vehicle owners who received one red-light running violation between July 2010 and May 2013 did not receive a second violation, while 8 percent received two tickets and less than 2 percent received three or more.

Similarly, in the three years since the Mark Wandall Traffic Safety Act became law, the average number of citations issued per camera per month statewide has decreased by 40 percent. During this same time period, the number of cameras in operation statewide continues to increase as more cities and counties partner with ATS to deploy this lifesaving technology.

Each year, 10,000 to 12,000 spinal cord injuries occur in the U.S., many as a result of traffic collisions. As part of the Mark Wandall Traffic Safety Act, The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis receives $3 from every paid Florida violation. Additionally, $10 from every paid violation goes towards the state's Health Care Trust Fund which provides valuable financial support to Level 1 Trauma Centers statewide.
